Baking is a passion for many people, and if turned into a career, it can be a well-paying job. Whats more fun than getting money from what you love doing?
Jyoti Patel, an experienced Chef and Chief Logistics Officer at Artcaffe Coffee and Bakery shares tips on how to turn the baking passion into a business.
“They should be prepared to delve into a career that is challenging, invigorating and rewarding. They must be curious with an eye for precision. They must realize that it is their responsibility to improve their understanding, keep up with the trends in the baking industry, have sound knowledge on ingredient functionality, time and temperature,” she said.
Speaking during the launch of Artcaffe Britam Tower Branch, Patel said she always encourages bakers to express their own individuality because, “at the end of the day, baking is an expression of your own creativity.”
She added;
“Be open to experience – try other people’s recipes but add your flair of individuality. Truly begin to understand ingredients and how they pair well. Most importantly, have fun. If you are trying to make it into a career, join a culinary school or reach out to get tactical experience.”
At Artcaffe, Patel says their biggest secret is using natural ingredients and artisanal techniques in making the best pastries.
She notes that there are a number of bakers who are not able to achieve the best results when making pastries at home.
Some of the common mistakes made at home are; “Working with warm ingredients, over kneading, overmixing, and rushing the process.”
During the launch of the Britam Tower Branch, guests were treated to tasty pastries, drinks and of course, good music.
