Transzoia, March 6, 2025 – Today, the body of Wafula Chebukati, former IEBC chairman, has arrived in Transzoia. Chebukati passed away on February 20 at the age of 63 after a long fight with an undisclosed illness. His body was flown from Nairobi to his homeland in Transzoia, where family and well-wishers now gather in sorrow and respect.

The procession was simple and quiet, yet filled with emotion. “This is a very sad day for us,” said David Wekesa, a close friend. “Chebukati was a good man who cared for his people,” he added in a trembling voice.

Local resident Jane Nekesa shared her grief, saying, “He was brave and true. He worked hard for fair elections and for our nation. His loss is deeply felt by all.” Another villager, John Mwangi, commented, “He had his faults, but his heart was in the right place. We will remember him for his service.”

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who attended the farewell, stated, “He stood for truth and the law. His contribution to Kenya will not be forgotten.” Family spokesperson Eric Nyongesa also spoke, urging respect for their privacy, “We need time to grieve our loss and honor his memory as a father and a leader.”

The simple farewell marks the end of a long journey. As Chebukati’s body now rests in Transzoia, many come together to say, “Goodbye, Chebukati.

Rest in peace.” The community’s heartfelt prayers and memories echo the sentiment of a nation mourning the loss of a man who dedicated his life to serving Kenya.
