A Catholic Bishop captured the hearts of many during the consecration of the new Bishop of Embu Diocese, Father Peter Kimani as he gave a political speech
Despite the significance of the event which was presided by former president Uhuru Kenyatta and the current president William Ruto some of the speeches and toasts given were relatively informal.
Speaking before the people, the Bishop had to remind Father Peter that he has to accept the new role the church has assigned – to be the bridge.
“Dear Father Peter, God through His church has chosen you to become a Bishop, and today you will be made the Bishop of Embu,” he began. His message took a striking turn as he cautioned against narrow affiliations, adding, “But always keep in mind that you are not a Bishop for a particular group of people, so to say one tribe, or a particular mountain, or a particular class.”
It was a perfect subject for a lighthearted yet deep message the crowd roared with laughter. In his message Bishop noted that through the church, people are bound together across the tribal and regional divide. That topped it all; as he spoke those words, you could see the affect they had on the young people before him.
