Kenyan influencer and content creator Carrol Sonnie has shared her personal struggle with body shaming, depression, and public criticism during a difficult period in her life.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Sonnie reflected on a photo of herself from 2022, describing it as one of her lowest moments. At the time, she had lost a significant amount of weight—not by choice—but as a result of silently battling depression.

Instead of support, she faced ridicule online. Some followers mocked her appearance, while others speculated she was unwell. The emotional strain even led her to shave her hair, a symbolic act during her mental health challenges.

“Some of you really insulted me for my weight, others even told me I was sick. Depression was my cup of tea every day,” Sonnie wrote. She credits therapy, self-love, self-awareness, and prioritizing peace of mind for helping her gradually rebuild herself.

Sonnie emphasized that her post was not for sympathy but to inspire others facing similar struggles. She urged followers to prioritize their well-being and reminded them that healing begins with taking control of one’s life. “The only person who will save you from your situation is YOU,” she said.

Her message comes months after TikToker Shikie Kariuki publicly mocked her weight gain in November 2025. Sonnie responded calmly, noting the irony of being criticized by someone who frequently comments on others’ lives. She chose not to engage further, calling the videos unconstructive.

Through her openness, Sonnie hopes to encourage self-love and resilience, reinforcing that change and recovery are possible even after the harshest criticism.
