A tense standoff unfolded at a neighborhood beauty shop in Nairobi after a woman reportedly completed a full salon makeover without having the money to settle the bill, insisting her boyfriend would send the payment later.
The incident, captured in a now widely shared video, shows the client seated inside the salon while staff members demand payment for services already rendered. According to the footage, the woman had her hair styled and nails done before revealing that she did not have the cash on hand. She is seen making repeated calls on her phone, apparently trying to reach her boyfriend, whom she claimed would send the money.
Salon workers, clearly frustrated, are heard questioning why she began the services without confirming payment. At one point, the argument grows louder as the staff warn that they may undo the hairstyle or take her phone as security if the bill is not settled. The woman pleads for patience, saying the money is on the way.
Estimates circulating online suggest the services could have cost anywhere between KSh 5,000 and KSh 10,000, a typical range for a hairstyle and detailed manicure in many mid-range salons across the city.
The video has sparked widespread debate on social media. Some viewers criticized the woman for relying entirely on her partner to cover the expense, while others questioned whether the salon should have clarified payment terms before beginning the services.
Beauty industry workers say such situations are not uncommon, particularly in busy urban salons where staff may assume clients will pay after the work is complete. As a result, some businesses are shifting toward requiring deposits or full payment before starting expensive treatments.
Whether the client’s boyfriend eventually settled the bill remains unclear. However, the viral clip has already become another reminder of how quickly everyday disputes in the city can spill into the public eye once a camera starts recording.
