Churchill Show comedian Jasper Muthomi, alias MC Jessy, wants to give back to his community by representing them as their Member of Parliament.
Jessy is going for the South Imenti parliamentary seat after Ameru elders gave him their blessings.
Speaking to Mpasho, he urged people to stop seeing politics as a place where one goes to look for money.
“I have made a name and I thank God since coming from a humble background and getting to where I am, it has taken a lot of effort,” he said.
“Kenyans have placed me as their top comedian. I look back and thank God and the only thing left for me is to give back to society.
“Money is not what drives people there. The genuine ones, you can see them. I have been under the mentorship of great leaders.”
MC Jessy, as a student and believer in the theory that the best classroom in the world is at an older person’s feet, said he has tried to give back to society as a comedian but there is still so much that needs to be done.
“You ought to do extra. For example, there are resources that I felt didn’t reach the common mwananchi,” he said.
“I am surrounded by people who are poor and I can’t feed them everyday with my money, but I can help as a leader to improve their lives, and so, lemme go for it. As a youth, I try to help the youths in Meru, but I can only do so as leader with the resources allocated for them.”
He said coming to Nairobi and using the available resources is a challenge that has been put on him to mentor youths back home.
“When we talk of the bottom-up programme, I will work with groups and help them run their organisations. I will sit down with elders and speak about the initial ideologies that were set before us.”
Jessy added that besides serving the people of South Imenti, he plans to table the Creative Industry Economy Bill and sponsor it in parliament.
“I am known as a comedian but I don’t have an identity,” he said.
The Creative Economy Council of Kenya, he says, will give artistes an identity.
“Journalists have a media card from the Media Council of Kenya and all other professions regulated by the government,” he said.
“It will be a regulator of the industry so that comedian Eric Omondi does not need to go and camp outside Parliament to push for airplay. We don’t need all that all drama.”
Asked what he would do if he loses the bid, Jessy said God has never failed him.
“God did not bring me this far to embarrass me. I will win and I there is no losing,” he said.
“Meru is Ruto-nated and I am winning South Imenti. My spirit is right. I have never been sleepless and I know God is giving me that opportunity.”
