January was always perceived to be a dry month, but in 2024 the story is quite different. The vegetation is green,in addition something which had not been witnessed for quite sometime just happened. In Kenya currently, the aesthetic has been spiced up by swarms of butterflies which have been reported migrating across the country. Western Kenya, Kisii, Kericho , Nakuru, Nairobi, Naivasha, Nyandarua, Nyeri among other areas are currently dotted with these beautiful creatures. They’re migrating southwards.
This particular specie is called Belenois aurota (African Caper White Butterfly) with brown-veined wings. Butterflies usually do this stunning migration between January and February—but this year—they’ve come out in their millions. North America is currently the same show of nature with red/brown butterflies 🦋.
The butterflies usually tell the levels of pollutants in the air, especially in built up areas which have factories. The presence of butterflies also signify blessings.
Nature is beautiful indeed.!
