The betting craze has turned into a source of pain for some families, with some committing suicide over it. It has also led to family break-ups.
In another tragic case, a businesswoman in Kakamega county ended her own life after losing Ksh60,000 to gambling.
The body of the woman was found inside her shop within Kakamega town. It is reported that she used the business money to try her luck only to lose her bet in all the games. Before her death, the woman is said to appeared disturbed while serving her customers.
According to a police report, no suicide note was found at the scene. Area Chief noted that the local authorities have already launched a probe into the matter.
The body was removed and taken to the nearby mortuary awaiting postmortem exam.
Many people are hooked on betting, which is most of the times driven by a bid to make quick cash. Some people, however, do not follow the advice, and that is why they have lost a lot of money to betting. They try their luck in the mushrooming betting platforms that have sprung up in Kenya.
