Ex-Machachari actor Peterson Gathambo alias Charlo has opened up on how he almost lost his life at the hands of the police.
The celebrated actor says he was at the right place at the wrong time.
Speaking during an interview with Ala C, he said;
“I was coming from Travelling theatre and we had gone to Kapenguria. I was dropped at the National theatre. People were always dropped there so they could find their way home.
At the time I was living in Mwiki, a place I had been introduced to by Jalang’o. On that day a woman had been killed by the police so there were riots and there were lots of police officers.
I arrived in Mwiki reached home and dropped off stuff and then I decided to go and buy a phone. I bought a phone and I was busy listening to it before I was stopped by some random police officers.”
He added;
“They asked for an identification card (id), before I could remove it I was hit very hard at the back of my head.
I have 9/11 stitches, they robbed me of my new phone and everything else. I watched helplessly. I crawled and went to my neighbour’s house and they administered first aid before taking me to the hospital.
After that, I lost some speech and I started stammering. I had wanted to be a news anchor but my dream died that day.”
He is best known for acting on Machachari, He also acts as Githeca on the Kikuyu show ‘Ithaga Riene’.
He is also a voice-over artist.
