The late TikToker Brian Chira’s grandmother, Esther, popularly known online as Shosho wa Chira, has shared her frustration after failing to retrieve her grandson’s phone more than a year after his death.
Chira died in March 2024 following a hit-and-run accident along Kiambu Road, a tragic incident that shocked his followers and sparked widespread debate online.
His passing prompted an outpouring of support from netizens, who later raised funds to help bury him and even built a house for his grandmother after videos emerged showing his desire to ensure she lived comfortably.
However, in a recent TikTok video shared by Chira’s close friend, Manzi wa Mombasa, Shosho wa Chira revealed that efforts to recover the TikToker’s phone and SIM card from the police have been unsuccessful.
She explained that the phone was taken by police as part of investigations following Chira’s death.
According to the elderly woman, her visit to Karuri Police Station did not yield results due to complications surrounding the case.
She disclosed that the officer initially handling the matter had been transferred to Baringo, while the officer who took over was reportedly bereaved. As a result, she was asked to return on December 29, 2025.
“I have never taken Brian’s phone. I came for it, but I did not find it. We have been told to come back on December 29,” she said in the video.
Shosho wa Chira also expressed concern about the SIM card, alleging that a man identified as Eric, who reportedly brought the phone to the police, claimed to be in possession of it.
She noted that despite being informed at one point that the phone was ready for collection, the process stalled, prompting her to personally follow up.
Her sentiments sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens sympathising with her ordeal while others questioned the delay and the condition of the phone after such a long time.
Earlier in the year, Shosho wa Chira dismissed claims that she intended to sell the house built for her by TikTok users. She thanked well-wishers, saying the home had given her peace of mind and a sense of security after her grandson’s untimely death.
