Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested two suspects accused of killing two boda-boda riders during the November 7, 2025, by-elections in Kasipul in Homabay County.
According to the police, the confrontation occurred at Opondo area in Central Kasipul Ward when supporters of independent candidate Phillip Aroko and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM’s) Boyd Were engaged in violent skirmishes.
County Police Commander, identified as Lawrance Koilem, said that the chaos erupted after Aroko and his supporters allegedly stormed Were’s campaign venue and fired shots into the air, sparking panic and violence.
According to Koilem, as Were went to report the incident at Oyugis Police Station, his supporters retaliated against Aroko’s team, leading to the fatal hacking of two youths aged 26, both supporters of Aroko.
The incident was condemned by the two leaders who sent their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, calling for the arrest of the suspects who were involved in their murder.
On December 24, 2025, Ramogi TV revealed that detectives who had been searching for the two suspects managed to arrest them. Three other suspects are still on the run.
