Activist Boniface Mwangi has made serious allegations against top government officials, accusing them of approving the ongoing abductions in the country. In a recent statement, Mwangi claimed that the units responsible for the abductions are operating independently of the National Police Service (NPS) and that the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, is complicit by allowing these actions to occur under his watch.
Mwangi did not hold back in his accusations, stating, “The units doing abductions are operating independently of NPS. IG of Police Kanja is a coward for allowing this to happen under his watch. The abductions are approved from Statehouse.” He further implicated President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo as the key figures approving who gets abducted.
These allegations come amid a wave of abductions targeting government critics and activists. The NPS has repeatedly denied any involvement in these incidents, with IG Kanja stating that the police are not holding any of the reported abductees. However, Mwangi’s claims suggest a more sinister operation at play, allegedly sanctioned at the highest levels of government.
Mwangi’s statement has sparked outrage and concern among the public and human rights organizations. Many are calling for an independent investigation into the abductions and the alleged involvement of top government officials. The accusations have added fuel to the already intense debate over the state of human rights and the rule of law in Kenya.
As the situation unfolds, the need for transparency and accountability becomes ever more critical. The allegations made by Boniface Mwangi highlight the urgent need for a thorough investigation to ensure that the rights and safety of all Kenyans are protected.
