A local man, Robert Mutai, popularly known as Scott, has come forward to address the press, alleging that he was compelled to return a car he purchased from former Bomet County Governor Isaac Ruto, after being sued for allegedly failing to complete the payment.

Mutai, who hails from Sotik, revealed that he decided to hand back the car to Ruto after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Chepalungu. During the summons, he learned that Ruto had accused him of only paying Ksh 500,000 out of the Ksh 2.2 million they had allegedly agreed upon for the car two years ago.

However, Mutai disputes these claims, insisting that he had paid the full amount despite the absence of a written agreement. “I have owned this car since the transaction, and I paid the full sum as agreed. These allegations are false,” he said during the press briefing.

Mutai explained that he felt cornered after Ruto filed a lawsuit against him, claiming that the former governor used his influence and office to pressure him into returning the vehicle. According to Mutai, Ruto allegedly told him that he wouldn’t take him anywhere without a written agreement.

Faced with the prospect of a prolonged legal battle, Mutai decided to return the car. “I called my friends to witness the handover. I realized this car has brought me nothing but trouble because of Ruto, so I decided to give it back and trust that God will bless me with another one,” he stated.

Mutai also lamented that despite their long-standing friendship and his support for Ruto’s political campaigns over the past 20 years, the former governor has turned against him. “I have stood by him, even campaigned for him, yet this is how he repays me,” he said.
