Bob Collymore is a Businessperson in Kenya, the largest economy in East Africa. He currently is the Chief executive officer at Safaricom, a multinational Telecommunications company.
He was born in Guyana, South America. He was raised by his grandparents in Guyana for 12 years. When he was 16, he moved to the United Kingdom where his mother was. He was the only black child in his class.
After school, he had to forego a place at Warwick University as he was not eligible for funding.
He spent most of his time filling forms as a junior underwriter and working as a train announcer.
In 1993 he joined UK’s Cellnet. He was appointed manager of handset strategy.
1994: Becomes purchasing director, Dixons Store Group
1998: Appointed handset purchasing director, Vodafone UK
2003:moves to Japan to manage the integration of J-Phone into the Vodafone Group
2006:Becomes governance director for Africa, Vodafone, and Safaricom
2009:Officer,Chief Office, corporate affairs, Vodacom
2010: Appointed Chief executive officer of Safaricom
Bob Collymore has two children which he had with his first wife and 3 children from his recently married wife Wambui Kamiru.
