Authorities are now investigating the matter, following the discovery of a 53-year-old dead male from Morkeyan village in Teso Central, Busia County.

He was missing for three days before his body was found in a nearby local river, according to preliminary reports. Identified as Charles Oteba, he was last seen on Thursday at the Simba Chai market. His body was found on Sunday evening in a river near the market with no visible signs of injury.

It is suspected that Oteba might have been trying to cross the river after drinking and then accidentally fell in leading to his drowning. As the festive season hits around optimum, authorities have warned locals on the excessive use of drug and substance abuse as it leads to unexpected turn of events.

With only days apart from the Christmas day, many have planned to celebrate but this should also be taken into concern because it may lead to more fatalities other than just enjoyment as it is perceived. The deceased’s body is currently in hospital morgue as it awaits autopsy. Walking in water bodies while intoxicated has also been said as one of the main reasons as to why people lose life hopelessly.
