Machogu stated that he made his decision in response to field officers’ reports of major flood-related effects on multiple schools.

He is scheduled to testify before the National Assembly Committee on Education to address inquiries regarding the consequences of delayed correspondence.

Due to the ongoing rain and flooding, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu pushed back the start date of classes by one week.

Machogu made the announcement in a statement released by the Ministry of Education on Sunday night, April 28, following reports from field officers that multiple schools had been significantly impacted by flooding.

The CS underlined that the government was unwilling to take chances and said that the affected institutions may put kids’ lives in jeopardy. Why was Machogu called by MPs?

The National Assembly Committee on Education has invited Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, to testify.

Machogu is scheduled to address members of Parliament in order to address inquiries about the consequences of the delayed announcement of the revised opening dates, as per a report by Citizen TV. The MPs expect Machogu to talk about how the modifications will affect the academic term calendar.

When they arrived in Nairobi, students en route to schools in Meru found that the schedule for opening had been moved to May 6, 2024.

According to a Facebook post made by Marigiri, when the students arrived in Nairobi, they were not informed of the date change. The pictures in the post showed students in a town close to Matatus, debating whether to go home or continue traveling.
