Televisions and Radio Stations have suffered a major blow especially those practicing any sort of betting. Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Hon. Duncan Mathenge tabled the motion in Parliament, with Emurua Dikirr MP, Johanna Ng’eno seconding the motion. MP Mathege stated that there is an emerging trend of media houses offering their audiences platforms to participate in betting through lottery style games, trivia shows, polls, contests and other SMS based gaming.
He added that the trend was initially perceived as a harmless form of entertainment and audience engagement but it has since developed into a problem within our communities leading to many Kenyans getting addicted to this form of gambling, which has led to lots of loss.
MPs have thus vowed to ensure that crackdown of those kind of televisions and radios should be begin as soon as possible because it making many Kenyans to be addicted thus ending up losing a lot of money which they could have instead used it for something else beneficial.
