Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon Babu Owino has been suspended from Parliament by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei today.
This happened after the vocal ODM MP stood on a point of order but angrily began shouting at the Deputy Speaker. Babu’s rants progressively continued, resulting to creation of a scene as they discussed the leadership of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA).
Calmly, the Deputy Speaker who was in charge of the motion warned the MP, telling he is out of order for shouting at her. But Babu remained defiant and continued to shout uncontrollably.
Coming to the defence of Shollei, Soy MP David Kiplagat stood up and igniting a fierce match of shouting. At this point, Shollei was literally irked, forcing her to crack the whip on Babu to prevent the spilling out situation.
āBabu Owino, I will read you Standing Orders 107 and 107a. If a member commits an act of disorderly conduct, creates disorder or knowingly raises a false point of order or unnecessarily interrupts proceedings the Speaker may caution the member or order the member to leave the assembly for 4 days,ā she read.
