Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has blasted the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome over the alleged salary cut for police officers in the country.
In a Viral video posted on his Facebook page, Owino claimed that Koome had increased the police salary by Ksh 1,000 and then deducted Ksh 2,000 from their allowances, leaving them worse off than before.
Owino said that Koome was a hypocrite and a liar who was pretending to care about the welfare of the police officers while in reality he was exploiting and oppressing them. He said that Koome had betrayed the trust and confidence of the police officers who risk their lives every day to protect Kenyans.
“Japheth Koome, you are a hypocrite and a liar. You are a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You are a traitor and a betrayer. You have increased the police salary by Ksh 1,000 and then deducted Ksh 2,000 from their allowances. You have robbed them of their hard-earned money. ” Babu said.
Owino also accused Koome of being corrupt and incompetent, saying that he had failed to reform the police service and instead had worsened the situation of police brutality, extrajudicial killings, human rights violations, and poor working conditions. He said that Koome had no moral authority to lead the police service and should resign immediately.
“Japheth Koome, you are corrupt and incompetent. You have failed to reform the police service and instead you have made it worse. You have condoned and encouraged the use of excessive force and violence against innocent civilians.” He further said.
Owino also called on President William Ruto to revoke Koome’s appointment and appoint a competent and professional person to head the police service. He said that Ruto had made a grave mistake by nominating Koome without proper vetting and public participation. He said that Ruto should listen to the voice of the people and respect their will.
“President Ruto, you have let down this nation by appointing Japheth Koome as the IG. You have betrayed the trust and confidence of Kenyans who elected you to office. You have shown that you do not care about the security and welfare of Kenyans.” He said.
