A section of Azimio politicians have welcomed the United Nation’s statement on the current state of the nation following the death of over 10 people who were allegedly shot by police during Azimio demonstrations.

This was after United Nations Human Rights raised concerns over the deaths, warning Ruto’s government against using excessive force on demonstrators. In a Press Statement released on Friday, the UN warned that it will not stand the excessive use of force by police and the deaths that occurred.

The UN called for immediate investigations into the deaths adding that culprits should be brought to book.

“The UN Human Rights Office is concerned by the widespread violence and allegations of unnecessary or disproportional use of force, including the use of firearms by police during protests in Kenya. We call for prompt thorough independent and transparent investigations into the deaths and injuries. Those responsible must be held to account. Effective measures to prevent further deaths and injuries must be adopted,” read part of the statement from UN

The UN also went ahead to call on Ruto’s administration to ensure the right to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the constitution and International Human Rights law. It warned that guns should not be used to disperse protestors.

It also called for open dialogue to address social, economic, and political grievances raised by Kenyans

It is a statement that was highly welcomed by Azimio led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, who immediately took to Twitter to warn Kenya Kwanza, saying they should be reminded of the law.

The same was shared by Pauline Njoroge, who praised the UN, hoping that Ruto’s government had seen the warning.

“The UN has spoken! The world is watching and can see who is responsible for the k!lling and maiming of Kenyans. There were no k!llings or vandalism on Monday when Raila was in town, neither were there killings or vandalism on Tuesday when Raila was having lunch in Kenyatta market” stated Pauline Njoroge
