The fight over the contentious Finance Bill 2023 has now been transferred to the National Assembly, where Members of Parliament (MPs) will have the last word.

Kenyans are increasingly looking to legislators to protect them from proposed tax increases such as the 16% levy on fuel items.

However, many political experts have expressed their opinions on whether MPs will vote along party lines or to save the electorates despite the government’s wishes.

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has said that the National Assembly is a rubber stamp as no one will vote against the Finance Bill 2023.

The Senator stated that if the legislators agreed to a secret ballot during the bill’s voting, no MP would vote for it. “There is a problem now because President William Ruto had announced that he is waiting for MPs who will vote against the bill, by the look of things, it will pass. In fact, it will pass in five minutes,” he said.

According to Maanzo , The people of Kenya are now keen to see their MPs who will pass the bill, as they have fully analysed the bill and know it’s not for their betterment.

He added that Senator Omtatata Petitions might solve the issues claiming that the petitioner has also analysed the Bill well.”This is why we are supporting the Okiya Omatata’s petition on the Finance Bill 2023, there are six points of illegalities, we also want Kenyans to watch and spot which members of parliament are betrayers,” he added.
