A family in Uasin Gishu county is seeking answers after their kin died under mysterious circumstances at a police post in Kiambu.

Police records show that businessman Samuel Muchemi died by suicide at Muchatha Police Post, a claim his family has dismissed.

Muchemi was found dead on Thursday morning following Jamhuri Day celebrations in Muchatha.

On December 12, Muchemi had spent the day with his friend, Charles Kung’u, at a local joint in Muchatha. The duo planned to stay overnight at Kung’u’s residence to avoid the risk of driving late at night after enjoying drinks. Kung’u left earlier, planning to meet Muchemi at his home later. However, instead of meeting at his residence as planned, Kung’u received a call informing him that Muchemi had been approached by the local chief and police officers.

Kung’u rushed to the scene where he found Muchemi engaged in a heated argument with the authorities. He tried to intervene and de-escalate the situation, but was roughed up and left for home, anyiciapatii to pick his friend from the police station in the morning.

In the morning, Muchemi’s family was contacted and informed that he had allegedly by suicide using his own shirt.

A post-mortem conducted at the local morgue concluded that he died of asphyxia due to neck compression. The examination also indicated that Muchemi had a soft issue injury one his head, which did not damage the skull.
