Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwour, better known as Jalas or Jalango is among the few political leaders from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp who have attended the homecoming and thanksgiving service of the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo in Homa Bay County.
As most of the Azimio MPs give the function attended by President William Ruto a wide berth, Jalango attended alongside other ODM rebel MPs.
In his remarks, Jalas said most of the Homa Bay and Nyanza region residents are yet to come to the terms that Ruto is the president, since they were sure the August 2022 presidential win was for the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He likened their loss to an exam where those taking part have hints on the answers, but still fail.
“Some of us, even seated here, are yet to believe that you are the president. As Azimio, we knew we were going to win for the first time, but that didn’t happen.”
“If it was an exam, I can say we had the marking scheme and our work was to transfer the answers from one paper to the next. We were sure of a win, but we did not know where you Your Excellency came from, you are now the president. Ruto is the President and that’s it.”
Jalas revealed that he will be facing the ODM party disciplinary committee next week owing to his recent State House visit and being a friend to President Ruto, calling upon the Head of State to intervene by reaching out to Raila Odinga.
In his recent addresses, Raila said his camp was going to take action against the MPs who were absent during the voting of the Finance Bill 2023, and those who voted in favour of the bill despite the party opposing it.
