During the funeral of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo today, his wife Anne Lanoi emotionally shared personal memories of her late husband, shedding light on his generous nature and how he transformed their home into a hub of community warmth.
Lanoi narrated how Jirongo treated lunch time as an opportunity to bring people together. “Every time Jirongo went home for lunch, he invited people to join us.
Our home turned into a restaurant during lunch time. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers would share meals with us,” she said, recalling the joy and laughter that filled their household.
The widow described Jirongo as exceptionally generous, always ready to give to others even when he had little to spare.
“He was a very generous person who would give even when he was remaining without anything.
That is the kind of man he was, always thinking of others before himself,” Lanoi added, her voice heavy with emotion.
Mourners at the Lumakanda homestead were visibly moved as Lanoi recounted these moments, highlighting the human side of a man often seen only through the lens of politics and public life.
She said these memories reveal a compassionate side of Jirongo, one that touched many lives in the community quietly and without fanfare.
Family members, friends, and political figures attending the burial paid tribute not only to Jirongo’s political career but also to his personal values of generosity, hospitality, and love for his family.
The burial, held at Lumakanda, Lugari, marks the conclusion of a week-long memorial that included vigils at Kitale and tributes across Western Kenya.
Anne Lanoi’s reflections offered mourners a glimpse into the everyday life of the late legislator, celebrating a legacy of kindness, selflessness, and devotion to both family and community.
