Governors have now United and announced that the National Government has started to take over the devolved responsibilities, by denying the counties funding for those activities.

They mentioned the Ministries of Health and Agriculture as being interfered with, which is a reversal of the steps taken ten years ago.

They said that the interference of health activities by the national government, has caused disaster and complaints to the people in the grassroots.

“The Council of Governors (CoG) wants the Ministry of Health to stop taking over health services as well as interfering with the functioning of county governments,” said CoG chair, Anne Waiguru.

Taifa Leo has also learned that the governors are arguing with the government regarding plans by the Ministry of Health to empower community health service providers without involving them, even though they will be working under the county governments.

The county heads say they are not happy with the Ministry of Health’s plan to allocate Sh519 million to pay the health workers to the community.

Also, the government gives them phones and other equipment to walk on the streets, while the workers who provide services in the county have been forgotten.

The letter of May 11 that Taifa Leo saw, shows that the Ministry of Health planned to start an awareness program from May 15 to May 20, for community health service providers on how to use the equipment they were given.

The plan has not pleased the governors, especially since the national government is looking for help from donors, while it is the same donors who fund projects in the counties.
