Kenya is a Democratic country and in the political landscape, there is multiparty democracy which allows for as many political parties as possible. Owing to the last general elections of 2022, there were over fifty political parties that partook in the general elections just to list the major political parties:

The Orange Democratic Movement was formed in 2005 and former prime minister Raila Odinga has been serving as the party leader, the Jubilee party was formed before the 2017 general elections with Uhuru Kenyatta as the party leader, the United Democratic Alliance was formed a year before last year’s general elections with Wiliam Ruto as the party leader, the Wiper party led by Kalonzo Musyoka, the Democratic Action party of Kenya associated with Eugine Wamalwa, the Amani National Congress allied to Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya allied to national assembly speaker Moses Wetangula among many more parties.

The Kenyan political parties raise money through different ways but the most common one is through public funding, the parties receive money according to how they perform in general elections. In the 2022 general elections, the then newly formed United Democratic Alliance got the highest number of elected leaders starting with the president and deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Orange Democratic Movement came second, and Jubilee third.

In this year’s funding, the United Democratic Alliance will get the largest share from the political parties fund, they will receive Ksh. 576.9M and they will be followed by Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement which will get Ksh. 308.2M and the Jubilee party will receive the third largest share which is valued at Ksh. 135.2M.
