Akothe

Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Akothee has responded to critics questioning her lifestyle and her children’s lives abroad.

In a series of social media posts, she dismissed claims that she projects a false image of wealth or success. Akothee said she has worked hard for her achievements and sees no reason to downplay them to make others comfortable. She criticized what she described as a “poverty mentality,” arguing that some people react negatively when others speak confidently about their accomplishments.

Addressing assumptions about her spending habits, Akothee revealed that she shops at affordable stores such as Primark for winter clothing, including nightwear. She explained that living comfortably does not mean abandoning sensible financial choices, adding that financial wisdom is part of maintaining long-term stability.

The singer also spoke about her daughter, who is currently studying in Oxford. She recounted a recent incident in which her daughter informed her that a Kenyan woman had approached her for a photo at a time when she preferred privacy. Akothee said she advised her daughter to remove herself from any situation that made her uncomfortable or unsafe.

Responding to claims that her children are spoiled or disconnected from reality, Akothee said her daughters have earned certain privileges through discipline and responsibility. She mentioned that business class tickets they received were gifts in recognition of their conduct and achievements.

She added that her family’s accomplishments are reflected in their everyday lives and do not require constant validation online. According to her, confidence in one’s success should not be mistaken for arrogance, and she encouraged critics to distinguish between self-assurance and pride.
