Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has once again sparked conversation online after delivering a blunt and humorous message to people who frequently ask her for money.
In her signature outspoken style, the mother of five made it clear that she is tired of indirect requests disguised as festive greetings and emotional appeals, especially during the Christmas season.
Akothee questioned why some people choose to hide their intentions behind messages such as “send me Christmas,” instead of being honest about needing financial help. She jokingly asked whether she was Jesus, reminding critics that even Christ was born on December 25, not her.
The singer added that despite celebrating her own birthday, she rarely receives gifts, yet many people feel entitled to her money simply because of her success.
Using humour mixed with raw honesty, Akothee explained that the money people so eagerly demand is hard-earned. She emphasised that her wealth did not come easily and should not be treated as public property.
In a candid remark, she said people want her “pesa ya matako nyeusi,” a phrase she used to underline the personal sacrifices and hustle behind her success. She further noted that when the money does not come through, some of the same people quickly turn to insults and online abuse.
The singer’s comments resonated with many of her followers, who applauded her for speaking openly about a struggle faced by many public figures.
Supporters agreed that constant financial demands can be exhausting and unfair, especially when they come with entitlement rather than appreciation.
Others, however, felt her remarks were controversial, arguing that celebrities should expect such requests due to their influence and perceived wealth. Despite the mixed reactions, Akothee remained unapologetic, staying true to her bold personality.
Her statement has reignited discussions about boundaries, financial entitlement, and respect for successful individuals. For Akothee, the message was simple: honesty matters, and no one is obligated to give just because they have.
