Kenyan singer and businesswoman Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has once again captured public attention after announcing her plans for a fifth wedding. The revelation, made via Facebook, comes with an emotional reason—she wants her ailing father to witness the ceremony while he is still alive.
However, Akothee’s announcement was accompanied by family tensions. She called out her siblings for criticizing her decision to take their father to the hospital without consulting them. Posting a photo of herself assisting him off a plane, she stood firm in her decision, saying she needed no one’s permission to care for him. Dismissing their complaints, she dared them to address her directly rather than discussing her in WhatsApp groups.
Akothee’s personal life has long been a subject of public fascination. Her previous wedding in April 2023 to Swiss businessman Denis Schweizer, nicknamed ‘Omosh,’ was one of the most extravagant in East Africa. However, the marriage was short-lived. The singer later revealed that the breakup was due to undisclosed mental health struggles her husband allegedly kept hidden before they tied the knot. She stated that he suffered from bipolar disorder, which led to irreconcilable differences.
A mother of five, Akothee’s relationships have been widely discussed. Her first marriage at age 14 resulted in three daughters. After separating from her first husband, she had a son with another man and later welcomed another son with a Frenchman. Currently, she is romantically linked to Nelly Oaks.
Despite controversies, Akothee remains a bold and outspoken figure in Kenya’s entertainment industry. Her upcoming wedding is expected to generate significant buzz, much like her past high-profile relationships and events.
