Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has called for an emergency meeting of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) members in January 2025 to discuss a radical plan for overhauling Kenya’s Judiciary, including the removal of Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The proposal comes amid mounting allegations of corruption in the Judiciary, with claims of judges issuing fake court orders and favoring litigants who offer bribes.
Ahmednasir, a vocal critic of the Judiciary, took to his social media platform to propose the initiative. He urged LSK President Faith Odhiambo and her Council to lead a “popular people-driven initiative” aimed at addressing judicial graft.
The senior counsel suggested targeting Chief Justice Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, and other Supreme Court judges allegedly linked to corruption.
“I think we need a special/emergency meeting of members of the @LawSocietyofKe in January 2025 to authorise madam President @FaithOdhiambo8 and her Council to spearhead a popular people-driven initiative to remove Madam CJ @CJMarthaKoome, her Deputy Justice Mwilu, JurisPESA judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya and all corrupt judges,” Ahmednasir posted on his X account.
Ahmednasir’s proposal follows heightened criticism of the Judiciary over reports of bribery and compromised decisions.
LSK Strongly Defends Ahmednasir, Files Petition To Quash Supreme Court’s Ban: “Unreasonable” – Tuko.co.keFormer LSK presidents, including Nelson Havi, Dr. Gibson Kamau Kuria, and Paul Muite, have also voiced their concerns about judicial corruption.
These advocates highlighted cases of fake court orders being used to evict Kenyans from their properties and accused judicial officers of normalizing the “rule of money” over the rule of law.
By proposing the special LSK meeting, Ahmednasir aims to galvanize the legal fraternity to take a stronger stance against judicial corruption.
