Accidents in Kenya have been increasing lately. This made William Ruto’s government take strong actions to reduce them.
The latest accident involved a passenger train and a car on the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway. The accident happened close to Makindu police station, where the road and the railway line meet near the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Makindu chief Jackson Kimende confirmed the incident. He said the car got stuck while crossing the old railway at the junction when the train from Mombasa to Nairobi was passing.
The driver escaped unhurt by jumping out of the car, which got partly damaged. The area has been marked as safe, and the car has been taken to the Makindu Railway police station.
Kimende urged everyone crossing to watch out for trains. He noted that the SGR wall, which is high above the ground, blocks the old railway.
Traffic police, along with investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, came to the scene to find out why the train accident happened.
