Deputy President Kithure Kindiki took a much-needed break from the fast-paced world of politics to relax at the residence of Farouk Kibet in Uasin Gishu County.The visit provided a perfect moment for reflection and camaraderie ahead of the highly anticipated Chepsaita Great Cross Country set to take place on Saturday.

The race’s second edition has attracted runners from 15 different countries and is anticipated to draw over 10,000 competitors in addition to a sizable audience of more than 25,000 visitors and onlookers.

As organisers finish off the preparations, the event has turned the region into a bustling hub of activity. With a presence of more than 2,000 security personnel, 20 ambulances, and more than 800 support staff deployed to ensure the event’s success, security and support measures are in place.

Now officially recognised by World Athletics, the race has attained Gold Level status and is a major event in the yearly World Athletics calendar.

Farouk Kibet, a key aide to President William Ruto, has been overseeing trial runs with the host team to guarantee a seamless event.””This year’s preparations are outstanding, and we anticipate an even better experience,” Kibet said. The head of a World Athletics technical team, Pauline Murumba, affirmed that everything is proceeding according to plan and in compliance with World Athletics rules.

“This is an international Gold Level event, and we are ensuring that all requirements, including media coverage, medical support, and safety, are met,” Murumba stated.

More than 300 local and international media outlets will cover the event, which is Africa’s second-largest cross-country race.

With 10,000 competitors confirmed to compete, registration is now closed. Kennedy Tanui, the competition director, stressed that the eagerly anticipated event will only feature registered runners.
