As the country starts to speculate about the 2027 presidential race, a recent online poll by a Kenyan user on X (previously Twitter) has drawn a lot of attention.
Sir-Rap-A-Lot (@Osama_otero) conducted the survey, which asked Kenyans to select their favourite presidential candidate from a list of four well-known candidates. The findings, which were gathered from 39,124 votes, have generated intense internet debates.
With 36% of the vote, President William Ruto was declared the winner. Given that the poll was taken during a period when Ruto is facing fierce criticism from Gen-Z and other well-known politicians, this outcome shocked many.
With 32% of the vote, Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia came in second. Omtatah, who is well-known for his activism and attempts to hold politicians responsible, has demonstrated his increasing appeal among Kenyans. He just revealed that he intends to run against Ruto in the general elections for president in 2027.
Fred Matiang’i, the former cabinet secretary for the interior, received 24 percent of the vote. In the lead-up to the 2027 elections, it is thought that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is supporting the former CS.
Kalonzo Musyoka, the head of the Wiper Party and a seasoned politician with decades of experience, only garnered 8% of the vote. His capacity to engage the present electorate has come under scrutiny in light of the outcomes. Some contend that if he wants to stay relevant in Kenya’s changing political environment, he needs to rebrand and take a more dynamic stance.
With over 142,000 views, 733 likes, and 239 reposts, the poll has attracted a lot of interest.
