For the past three months, Alice Okoth Okwonya has not left her living room.
Her once busy life as a caterer in Nairobi came to a stop when her health worsened. Now, she spends her days on a small makeshift bed, unable to move much.
Alice is battling several serious medical issues. One of them is a heart problem that doctors say needs surgery—soon. If she doesn’t get the operation, her life could be in danger.
The 38-year-old is a single mother of two young children. With no steady income and growing hospital bills, she is facing a heartbreaking choice.
She is now thinking of selling her house—the same house she has called home for the last five years.
“I have nothing left,” Alice said quietly. “I’m at the end. I don’t know where else to turn.”
The cost of her surgery is high. But for Alice, every day without it is a risk.
Friends and neighbours have tried to help, but it is not enough. She needs more support, and time is running out.
Despite her pain, Alice remains hopeful. “I want to live. I want to be there for my children,” she said.
She hopes that sharing her story will touch hearts and bring help.
Her courage in the face of suffering is clear. But so is the fear in her voice.
Now, all she can do is wait—and pray—that someone out there will help her find a way to heal without losing her only home.
