Juja MP George Koimburi is staring down a political and legal firestorm after detectives revealed that his recent abduction claims may have been fabricated a move that could land him in court.
The saga comes just days after the chilling assassination of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, who was shot dead in broad daylight after warning that his life was in danger.
The back-to-back incidents have shaken public confidence in the safety and integrity of Kenya’s political class.
Unlike Were’s fatal shooting, which investigators say was a targeted and premeditated attack, Koimburi’s case is spiraling into a scandal.
Police now believe the MP may have staged his own abduction, with help from a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) official, and are preparing to arrest and charge him once he is discharged from hospital.
“In a country where politicians often thrive on theatrics and the police are plagued by mistrust, sorting fact from fiction is no easy task. But if Koimburi faked this incident, it could mark the beginning of the end for his political career.”noted a political analyst.
