A middle-aged man is in police custody after allegedly killing his father-in-law and seriously injuring his separated wife in a machete attack in Makueni County.
The brutal incident occurred on Tuesday in a village near Sultan Hamud.
According to police reports, the suspect stormed the home where his estranged wife had sought refuge and attacked both her and her father with a machete.
The father-in-law died on the spot from severe injuries, while the woman sustained deep wounds and was rushed to hospital.
After fleeing the scene, the suspect later turned himself in at the Sultan Hamud Police Station, where he was immediately placed in custody.
Authorities confirmed that he will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
“The victim is in stable condition and receiving treatment,” said Makueni County Police Commander, adding that detectives are pursuing leads to establish the motive behind the attack.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Sultan Hamud Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
The shocking incident has left the local community in grief and disbelief, as residents call for swift justice and increased efforts to curb domestic violence in the region.
