June Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, has officially graduated from the National Defence College (NDC) in Karen, Nairobi.
She was part of a group of 66 senior officers and officials who completed the 49-week course focused on national security and leadership.
The graduation ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and was attended by top military and government leaders, including Defence CS Soipan Tuya and Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri.
June, who works in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and once served as Kenya’s top diplomat in Poland, joined the college’s 27th cohort for the 2024/25 session. Her training included topics like strategy, emerging threats, and international cooperation.
Her presence at the elite college surprised many, as she is better known for her diplomatic work. The Ministry of Defence had earlier explained that her enrollment was part of a larger plan to train key public servants for strategic roles in government.
The Defence CS praised all graduates, calling their journey a “historic milestone.” General Kahariri gave a powerful lecture on technology and national security, warning about the double-edged sword of modern tools like AI and cyber weapons.
June now joins a powerful list of NDC alumni expected to shape Kenya’s security and foreign policy in the years to come.
Her graduation has sparked fresh debate online, with many Kenyans wondering what her next move could be.
