The mysterious abduction and brutal assault of Juja MP George Koimburi has shaken Kenya’s political landscape, raising fresh alarm over the safety of elected leaders. According to Party Leader of the Democratic For Citizens Party (DCP), Rigathi Gachagua, the MP’s attackers used an airborne chemical substance that damaged his vocal cords. As a result, Koimburi is currently unable to speak and remains in critical condition at a Nairobi hospital.
Koimburi disappeared during a church function last weekend. He was later found abandoned near a coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Ruiru, bearing extensive soft tissue injuries. Medical assessments point to injuries consistent with structured and professional torture methods.
The attack has triggered widespread condemnation across the political divide. Legislators and civil rights advocates have jointly called for a swift and transparent investigation. There is growing concern that the incident could mark a disturbing trend of politically motivated violence.
