Father Maina

A man has come forward as the Good Samaritan who rescued the late Catholic priest Father John Maina, who was found injured along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Speaking anonymously, the man said he spotted Father Maina around 10 a.m. as he was travelling from Gilgil, initially mistaking him for a potential customer.

Upon stopping, he discovered the priest was seriously injured and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital.

“He was bleeding and in pain, but he was conscious,” the rescuer recalled. “I just did what any human being should do.”

Father Maina, who served in Nyandarua County, succumbed to his injuries days later. His mysterious case has raised concerns, especially since his death came shortly after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited his church.

Authorities have not yet linked the two events but are investigating.

The Good Samaritan said he decided to speak out after seeing growing speculation and misinformation surrounding the incident.

“I couldn’t stay silent anymore. People need to know someone tried to help him,” he said.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the priest’s death, as the church and local community mourn the loss of a devoted servant of faith.
