NTSA

In a move that’s sending shockwaves through the motoring community, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced plans to introduce mandatory vehicle inspections for specific categories of vehicles across the country. This bold initiative is part of a wider crackdown on road safety violations and could significantly impact thousands of motorists.

According to the NTSA, the new directive will target vehicles that pose the highest risk to road users. These include public service vehicles (PSVs), commercial trucks, school buses, and vehicles older than four years. Officials say this step is necessary to combat the increasing number of accidents caused by mechanical failures and poorly maintained vehicles.

The inspection will be conducted at NTSA-approved centers, where vehicles will be thoroughly checked for roadworthiness, emissions, braking systems, tire condition, and lighting. Failure to pass the inspection will result in the vehicle being barred from operating until necessary repairs are made and a subsequent inspection is passed.

Motorists are voicing mixed reactions. Some support the move, saying it will eliminate dangerous vehicles from the roads. Others, however, see it as an additional financial burden, especially for drivers of older vehicles who fear failing the tests and facing repair costs or penalties.

NTSA Director General has assured the public that the process will be transparent and fair. “Our goal is not to punish drivers but to ensure all vehicles meet safety standards to protect lives,” he stated.

The rollout date is yet to be officially announced, but sources say implementation could begin as early as next quarter. Vehicle owners are urged to begin preparing now.
