Two of Kenya’s finest and smoothest TV faces and pretty voices are making a grand return to your screens.
The duo, known for their unrivalled skills of presenting news, interviewing guests and melting the hearts of many, are walking back to the screens at celebrity and star studded TV47 and the country can’t wait.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Debarl Inea and Abubakar Abdulahi back on your screens.
Debarl Inea
Before he started grilling seasoned politicians on TV, the young and sharp Debarl stood under lights of a reality TV show, Tusker Project Fame (TPF), chasing a very different dream.
That was around 2006 when he was pursuing his dream of becoming Kenya’s best music star and with his smooth voice, his career in mesmerizing audiences with his voice was born.
Straight from that stage, Debarl walked into the world of journalism, where, over the years, he has graced newsrooms.
Today, Debarl is one of Kenya’s most respected broadcast journalists. His style is unmistakable — composed, eloquent, and precise with a touch of cheekiness where necessary.
His stint at NTV’s AM Live turned morning television into a serious arena for political engagement.
Debarl makes somewhat topics feel and sound interesting without watering them down.
Previously, he has worked for NTV, K24 and KTB where he made a name as an anchor and political/current affair talk-show moderator.
Abubakar Abdullahi
There’s that kind of stillness that fills the screen, one that commands attention without the need to shout, when Abdullahi steps in front of the camera.
It’s the kind of presence that’s earned through perfection.
Despite his high ranking in the media, Abdullahi’s rise hasn’t been flashy nor has it been marinated with headline-grabbing controversies to push his brand, just professionalism.
And he is just coming back home as he had a stint at TV47 as the CEO for at least four years and a top anchor before taking a deserved break.
Abdullahi resigned from his position as CEO and Chief Editor at the station in March 2023.
Now, his return demonstrates the good relationship he built with the station owners for the time he was at the outlet as the CEO of Cape Media Ltd, the company which also owns Radio 47.
Before joining TV47, Abubakar worked at Elm TV, iTV and Standard Media Group.
His return is the true meaning of: ‘never burn bridges.’
Abdullahi has expressed his gratitude by his return to his former ‘home’ and lauded the board for considering him one more time.
“Pleased to announce that I am returning to TV47. I thank the Board for its faith in my abilities,” he said in a brief statement of appreciation.
Debarl and Abdullahi are joining a formidable list of celebrity and A-list anchors and reporters including Linda Alela, Victor Muyakane, Shiksha Arora, Betty Kyalo, Stanely Nyaringita, Fred Indimuli, Eric Munene, Apollo Kamau, Tony Kwalanda and Elizabath Atieno.
Since its establishment, TV47 has been ranked among the top 4 most watched TV stations in Kenya.
A recent survey by Infotrak has shown the station has steadily rose to competitively feature among the big four, just slightly behind Citizen TV, NTV and KTN, in that order.
Established in 2019, TV47 is associated with the founder of Kenya’s biggest private university, Mount Kenya University, Professor Simon Gicharu.
