There was a drama today in the Senate when Nairobi County Senator Honourable Edwin Sifuna lost his cool and slammed Senate Majority Leader Honourable Aaron Cheruiyot after heckling him publicly.
Sifuna, clearly irritated, stood up and firmly stated that he was elected by the people of Nairobi and could not be bullied while in the Senate.
He emphasized that there is no one in the House who is above the other, since all senators were elected by the people to represent them equally.
Sifuna directly addressed the Speaker and asked him to throw him out if there was any law in the House that allowed it.
He pointed out that he would not accept being intimidated or undermined, especially during debates that required equal participation and mutual respect among all members.
His remarks drew mixed reactions from fellow senators, with some appearing shocked while others murmured in agreement.
The tension highlighted a growing rift between the leadership in the Senate, raising concerns over how business would continue if respect and order are not restored.
The Speaker, trying to calm the situation, called for decorum and reminded all members of the importance of maintaining the dignity of the House.
