Detectives investigating the tragic killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were have made significant progress, following the arrest of a key suspect believed to have played a direct role in the assassination.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the apprehension of Amos Barasa Kasili, a boda boda operator who allegedly transported the main suspects involved in the murder.
The arrest was made after intensive investigations and review of CCTV footage from the scene of the incident, which occurred on April 30 near the City Mortuary Roundabout in Nairobi.
According to a statement from the DCI, Barasa confessed during interrogation that he had been hired to transport the individuals who trailed and later shot the MP. He admitted to receiving KSh 50,000 as payment for his role in the crime.
Further investigations revealed that Barasa is a known repeat offender who operates under the guise of a boda boda rider but is allegedly involved in organized criminal activities.
The detectives indicated that Barasa had been previously linked to similar crimes and was found in possession of the same motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W, seen on CCTV trailing the MP’s vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that the recovered motorcycle matched the one used during the fatal attack, solidifying Barasa’s connection to the case.
His arrest marks a critical breakthrough in the investigation as detectives continue efforts to track down the other suspects involved in the assassination.
The motive behind the killing remains under investigation as the search for the main perpetrators intensifies.
