ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo is making headlines after a photo of him in a unique outfit went viral online. Kabogo appeared wearing a white shirt, a formal tie, khaki trousers, bold striped socks, and tan safari boots. The fashion choice quickly drew attention and laughter from Kenyans on social media.
Many Kenyans joked that the look was better suited for a safari than a Cabinet meeting. The image, shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), triggered a wave of hilarious memes that poked fun at his dress sense and his role in the tech sector.
One viral post joked about his socks saying, “Baridi imezidi, hebu washa hotspot,” while another made fun of ICT budgeting with the caption, “Toa hizo mouse kwa budget.” Kenyans even questioned how much “file managers” in his ministry earn, turning Kabogo into a trending topic.
Kabogo has always been a public figure who attracts attention. During his first week in office, he made headlines with a strong stand against online adult content. He warned that pornography is damaging families and society, and said he would stop it if he had the power.
His return to government after years of silence has been marked by bold statements and striking fashion. He was also seen at a burial sporting a balding haircut similar to the late President Mwai Kibaki. This new look caught the public’s eye and got people talking online.
Kabogo later told KTN that he is aware of the attention and simply said, “My hairstyle, my choice.” He added that Kenyans will always talk, and he is okay with it.
Earlier this year, at the Annual Data Privacy Conference, Kabogo wore a suit paired with a traditional beaded headband, usually worn during cultural ceremonies. That look also caused a stir, with many wondering about his style choices.
Kenyans love humour, and Kabogo’s fashion has given them another reason to laugh and bond online. From safari boots to striped socks, the CS seems to have sparked a new wave of fashion fun in government.
