A woman suspected of drugging passengers in public service vehicles (matatus) and stealing their belongings narrowly escaped mob justice after she was arrested by police.
In a video shared on Facebook, the woman is seen being escorted by an armed police officer through a crowd of angry people. The crowd follows them closely, shouting and attempting to confront her. When they stop, some members of the public try to harass the woman, but the officer steps in and stops them from hurting her.
According to a source, the woman is believed to be part of a group that drugs matatu passengers before stealing their phones, money, and other valuables. This kind of crime has become more common in Nairobi and nearby towns.
Cases of people being drugged are not new in Kenya. In recent years, there have been several reports of men being targeted by women known as “Pishori Babes” in bars and clubs.
These women pretend to be friendly, then secretly put drugs in drinks before robbing their victims. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned men to avoid drinking with strangers and to be extra cautious in nightclubs.
Now, it seems this criminal method is spreading into public transport. Many Kenyans use matatus daily, and this new trend is worrying. Passengers are being advised to stay alert, avoid accepting food or drinks from strangers, and report any suspicious behavior to authorities.
Thanks to the quick action by the police in this case, the suspect was protected from being harmed by the public and is now in custody for questioning.
