The Head of State Dr William Ruto may now have shot himself on the leg following jis appointments to the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission.
Details have now emerged that majority of the nominees are not as clean as many Kenyans would have wished, considering the sensitivity of the dockets the nominees will hold once approved by the National Assembly.
The nominee for IEBC chairperson Mr Erustus Edung Ekethon is now believed to ve a close associate of former Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok who now serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President. Mr Edung served as an attorney under Nanok.
Hassan Noor Hassan who was nominated as an IEBC commissioner was in 2019 linked to the multimillion NYS scandal where he was later arrested. Mr Hassan was also accused of trampling with Human Rights while he served as the head of Mau Forest Interim Coordination Secretariat.
Others like Anne Nderitu have been previously criticized for their decisions while she worked as the Registrar of Political Parties.
All this is contrary to President Ruto’s earlier stance that he’ll appoint and nominate people with clear track record.
Meanwhile, the opposition has expressed unsatisfactory remarks over the nominations, accusing Ruto of sidestepping the agreement made at Bomas.
