Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has come to the defense of the late Homa Bay Town MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was tragically killed in a suspected robbery on February 17, 2025. In a passionate statement, Passaris rebuked critics of the late MP, describing them as “empty debes making the most noise”

“I want to tell those who have something negative to say about the late MP Ong’ondo Were that in English we say empty debes make the most noise,” Passaris declared.

Her remarks, made during a memorial event in Homa Bay, underscored the deep affection the local community had for Ong’ondo.

Ong’ondo Were, a first-term MP elected on an ODM ticket in 2022, was fatally shot by unknown assailants in what police described as a possible robbery in Nairobi’s Woodley Estate.

As Homa Bay prepares for a by-election to replace Ong’ondo, his legacy remains a focal point. Passaris urged residents to focus on unity and development, echoing the late MP’s vision. “Let’s silence the noise and continue the work he started,” she concluded.
