On May 6, 2025, police in Nairobi made significant progress in the investigation into the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ong’ondo Were, following the recovery of crucial evidence linked to the crime.
During a raid at a house in Chokaa, Embakasi East, detectives recovered two pistols, one of which is believed to have been used in the MP’s killing.
The police also seized a bag and shoes, which are suspected to belong to the prime suspect in the case.
The recovered weapons will undergo ballistic analysis to determine their ownership and confirm their connection to the murder.
Preliminary tests on bullets recovered from the crime scene and Ong’ondo Were’s body have already linked the weapon to other violent incidents, including crimes in Komarock and Kayole (Nairobi) and Ndumberi in Kiambu County.
In addition to the weapons, the police have detained the MP’s driver and bodyguard, who were reportedly present during the murder but escaped unscathed.
Their conflicting statements have raised suspicions, and authorities are working to clarify the details of the incident.
Investigators are also pursuing other suspects, including a boda boda rider and a police officer, who may have been involved in orchestrating the hit using a deactivated SIM card registered under a fake identity.
Former police spokesperson Charles Owino confirmed the developments in a Facebook post, stressing that the recovery of the pistol used in the murder marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
The police have vowed to continue their search for additional leads, with the aim of building a strong case against the prime suspect.
While the investigation is ongoing, these recent developments suggest that authorities are steadily moving closer to uncovering the truth behind the tragic death of Charles Ong’ondo Were, which has shocked both his constituency and the nation at large.
