Kameme tv owned by Mediamax company is one of the over 20 tv stations marked for shutdown.Kameme tv is the only popular and widely known station that might face closure. This is after the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) asked the Communication Authority (CA) to take immediate action against the stations.

The BCLB accused the stations of continued betting adverts despite an existing 30 day suspension of such advertisements.”Following the Board’s recent press statement announcing a 30 day suspension of betting advertisements,it has come to our attention that several media outlets continue to run unauthorized betting promotions” part of BCLB’s letter read.

The agency further said the stations are still portraying paybills and encouraging viewers to participate for a chance to win.The BCLB is currently under the Executive office of the President. The board has further ordered Safaricom to suspend their paybills with immediate effect. The suspension came after social media users accused the betting companies of over exploiting Kenyans.
