Renowned lawyer and human rights activist Dr Miguna Miguna has strongly criticized the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for what he termed as gross mishandling of the crime scene following the fatal shooting of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.According to Miguna, the immediate removal of the deceased’s vehicle from the scene by Ong’ondo’s driver and bodyguard was not only improper but also suspicious.

Taking to his official X account, Dr Miguna expressed disbelief at the manner in which DCI officers handled the scene. He accused them of allowing potential suspects—the driver and bodyguard—to access the vehicle before forensic investigations had been conducted. Miguna further lamented that the officers failed to secure the scene and instead allowed what he called a “rampage” through the vehicle.

He noted that in such serious incidents, forensic experts in full protective gear should be the ones to process the vehicle, which should then be towed away for further examination.

The veteran activist insisted that Ong’ondo’s driver and bodyguard should be treated as suspects and investigated, rather than being permitted to potentially tamper with crucial evidence.

He concluded by branding the DCI as “backward, primitive and incompetent,” and suggested that the scene may have been deliberately contaminated to hinder the arrest of the assassins.
